Obituary for Samuel James Bova
Samuel James Bova, age 94, of Stratford, beloved husband of 59 years to the late Rose M. (Iannone) Bova, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 11, 2016 in Stratford surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Bova was born July 20, 1921 in Stratford, son of the late Antonio and Margaret (Diblasi) Bova and had been a life time Stratford resident.
Sam was a graduate of Stratford High School and a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He was proud of his service as a trouble shooter and mechanic on the Chance Vought Corsairs. He retired from Raybestos and was an all-star second baseman for the Raybestos Fast-Pitch Cardinals.
He loved to travel with Rose and adored his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a great storyteller and a history buff and knew a great deal of the history of Stratford.
He is survived by his son, James Bova and his wife Bernice of Stratford; his daughter, Donna Miller of Milford; four grandchildren, Danielle Petrini and her husband Jason, James Bova and Caitlyn and Matthew Miller and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. from the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford and at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sam's memory to the CT Chapter Parkinson's Disease Association, PO Box 718, Old Mystic, CT 06372.
