Obituary for Sara "Peggy" Makraus
Sara "Peggy" Makraus, age 87, of Stratford, died peacefully in her home, Saturday, November 5, 2016.
She is survived by a son, James H. Makraus of Bridgeport and his stepchildren, Dale Johnston and Amanda Squires. Peggy also had two daughters, Elizabeth Makraus, (who was her primary caregiver) and Patricia Nucifora and her husband Robert, all of Stratford. In addition, she is survived by three adored granddaughters, Kimberly Nucifora of Stratford, Heather Nucifora of Sandpoint, Idaho and Amanda Nucifora Stonaha and her husband Chris of Cheshire, CT; her loving sister, Barbara Berkeley and her husband Art of Stratford; her loving sister-in-law, Katherine Lenihan of Stratford and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, James Makraus, and her sister, Helen Rosenfeld of South Carolina.
Peggy was a graduate of Harding High School and the University of Connecticut. She had a brilliant mind and more often than not, she would win playing poker and Trivial Pursuit. Peggy loved to make Christmas cookies and play games with her granddaughters when they were young. She was an avid reader and spent countless hours doing intricate puzzles. Peggy was a wonderful mother, an amazing grandmother and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford. Guests are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. by meeting directly at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Ave, Bridgeport, CT 06604. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
