Obituary for Sy German
GERMAN - Andrew “Sy” George German, age 85, of Shelton and previously of Stratford; , beloved husband of the late Catherine (Jennings) German, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 2, 2014. Mr German was born May 1, 1929 in Bridgeport, son of the late Andrew and Beatrice (Schiebel) German and had been a lifetime Stratford resident until his move to Shelton. Sy owned and operated Modern Radiator Repair in Stratford for many years, “Best place in town to take a leak.” He was a member of the Stratford Old Timer’s Athletic Association and an avid golfer. In high school, Sy was the Quarterback and Captain of Stratford High School’s Football Team. Survivors include his four children, Kenneth German of Stratford, Donna Hawley and her husband Frederick of NJ, Cynthia German and her fiance, Paul Simpson of Stratford and Andrew German of St Petersburg, FL; one sister, Barbara Webster of RI; six grandchildren, Katharine (Hawley) Capra, Frederick Scott Hawley , John Hawley, Jamie Hawley, Ian German, Stephanie Dennis and Matthew Carroll; nine great-grandchildren, Rachel German, Drew German, Charlie German, Duncan German, Nicolas Capra, Bailey Capra, Justin Capra, Jacob Hawley and Harry Bleasdale; two nieces, Sharon Kay and Susan Neilson and greatnieces and nephews, Megan Traverso and J.J. Kay. He was predeceased by a sister, Anne Schirillo of NV and a granddaughter, Jaime Elizabeth Hawley of NJ. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. by meeting directly at the First Congregational Church of Stratford, 2301 Main St., Stratford, CT 06615. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may visit with the family Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford.
