Obituary for Thomas Donegan
Thomas Edward Donegan Sr., age 90, beloved husband of 57 years of the late Margaret 'Peggy' (Borst) Donegan of Riverview, Florida and previously of East Haven, Connecticut, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015 in Bridgeport Hospital.
Tom was born August 15, 1925 in New Haven, Connecticut. Son of the late Daniel and Hannah (Ryan) Donegan and had been an East Haven resident until moving with his beloved Margaret to reside in Riverview, Florida in 1989.
Tom was a proud World World II United States Navy Veteran and was retired from the United States Postal Service. He was very involved in the politics of his town serving as past treasurer East Haven and the East Haven Library. He was a supporter of many charities and his local church.
Some of Tom's favorite times were spending summers with his wife, children and grandchildren at their cottage in Winsted, CT. He liked to go fishing, boating, watching football and spending a quiet afternoon with a cup of hot tea and a fill-in puzzle. After retirement, Tom enjoyed traveling with his wife on cruise excursions to different parts of the world.
Survivors include his loving children, Barbara 'Bonnie' (Donegan) Kopchik and her husband Kenneth of Stratford; Thomas E. Donegan Jr. and his wife Joni of Pittsburgh, PA.; four grandchildren, Chelsey (Donegan) Pendock and her husband Charles of New York, NY, Teah (Donegan) Mehri and her husband Peiman of Tampa, Florida, Thomas Donegan III of Toronto, and Kelly Kopchik of Singapore, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Debra Ann Donegan and three siblings, Dorothy (Donegan) Janicki, Donald Donegan and Anna (Donegan) Dubeau.
Friends are invited to attend Mr. Donegan's Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. by meeting directly at Saint James Church, 2110 Main St., Stratford, CT. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. All other services are private.
