Obituary for William Robert Rae
RAE - William Robert Rae, age 73, of Stratford and beloved husband of Judith Ann (Allen) Rae, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Bridgeport. Bill was born on March 19, 1942 in Bridgeport, son of the late Robert and Myra (Alfonzo) Rae. He was a lifetime Stratford resident and graduate of Stratford High School.
Bill had an incredible work ethic and believed in the importance of service to his community and country. He was a United States Army Veteran and a retired Stratford firefighter with 34 years of service. In his early life, he was a commercial truck driver and later worked part-time for Standard Oil and Parkway Oil. He enjoyed carpentry, camping, billiards, and could often be found at a local Dunkin' Donuts. He was also a great lover of animals, especially his dogs. Most of all, Bill cherished and loved spending time with his family.
Survivors, in addition to his beloved wife, include: his son, Thomas Rae and his wife Deana of Milford; two daughters Lauren (Rae) Meier and her husband George of Oxford and Lynn Rae and her husband Kevin Barnes of Arizona; seven grandchildren, Jake Rae, Kelly, George and Matthew Meier and Sydney, Savannah and Maya Barnes; one sister, Patricia Valliere of Florida and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kelly Ann Rae and five of his siblings, Barbara Jean Augusztin, Richard Rae, Edward Rae, Josephine Agrella and Donald Shea.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. by meeting directly at Saint James Church, 2070 Main St, Stratford. Interment will be private. Friends may visit with the family Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St. Stratford.
