Obituary for Willie McCallister
McCallister - Willie McCallister, age 69, of Stratford, beloved husband of Veronica (Turbert) McCallister, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015 in Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. McCallister was born August 4, 1946 in Effingham, SC., son of the late Mack Clifford Johnson and Alberta McAlister and had been a long time area resident.
Willie was a retired armed guard for CDC Armored Car Services and was a United States Army veteran, having served in Germany during the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar, working on cars, but he was happiest spending time with his family.
Survivors, in addition to his beloved wife, include his eight children, Christine McCallister and her companion Emery Wiley of Hamden, Willie McCallister and his companion Deborah Smith of Stratford, Cheri Vandroff and her husband Stephen of Stratford, Matthew McCallister and his companion Kimberly Vanwart of Stratford, Michael McCallister and his wife Patricia of Waterbury, Mack McCallister and his companion Erika Sparks of Stratford, Veronica McCallister and her companion Omar Alicea of Stratford and Amber McCallister and her companion David Garahan of Stratford;Â six brothers and sisters, Maxine, Carrie, Diane, Shirley, Betty and William; nineteen grandchildren; one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister and two brothers, Joyce, Larry and Bernard "Bosco"
Friends are invited to attend his funeral service Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford. Interment will be private. Friends may visit with the family Tuesday before service time from 3:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you bring a non–perishable food item to be collected during calling hours to be donated to the local food bank.
