Obituary for Michael John D'Onofrio, Sr.
Michael John D'Onofrio, Sr., age 56, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Born in Bridgeport, CT on December 8, 1959, he was the son of the late Alfred and Jean (Christensen) D'Onofrio, Sr. and was a lifelong area resident.Â
Mike graduated from Stratford High School in 1978 and the Technical Career Institute. Mike was an excellent mechanic having worked in many area Volkswagen and Saab dealerships.  He was one of the first to become a Volkswagen Master Technician in the United States and then went on to become a Saab Master Technician. His greatest passion was being on the water, fishing with his son or hanging out with friends at Brown's Marina. Mike was instrumental in starting the Housatonic River Clean Up many years ago while being a member of the Trophy Chasers Fishing Club. He was an avid participant in the Riverlights Boat Parade and the Stamford Boat Parade. For many years he was often seen piloting his boat up and down the Housatonic River around the winter holidays with his boat lit up and decorated for Christmas.Â
Mike is survived by his beloved son, Michael John D'Onofrio, Jr. and girlfriend Carol Koty; his brothers Alfred D'Onofrio, Jr. and wife Kellie, Joseph D'Onofrio and wife Linda; his sisters Teresa Stockholm and husband Bob, Anne Marie McClure and husband Dan, Barbara Goff and husband Ray IV and Susan D'Onofrio; his aunt, Marietta D'Onofrio and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mike will also be sadly missed by many dear lifelong friends and his cat Chance.  Â
