Obituary for Dr. Ervin Wesley Menzel
Dr. Ervin Wesley Menzel, age 90, of Stratford passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021 in Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his sons. Mr. Menzel was born January 1, 1931 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, son of the late Ervin and Allice (Ferguson) Menzel.

He was a United States Army veteran, and a retired and accomplished Professor who taught at the University of Bridgeport. He had two masters’ degrees. He also had a doctorate degree in education.

He is survived by his sons, Steven Wesley Menzel from New Haven, CT, and Daniel Paul Menzel and his wife Mary of Larchmont, New York; three grandchildren, Samantha, Connor and Christopher; two nieces, Betsy and Susan and one nephew, David.

Dr. Menzel had a deep love of learning, he loved reading and was a well-respected, beloved professor. He taught science education and started a nutrition program at the University of Bridgeport. He was curious and had a quick wit and an endearing sense of humor. He was also an avid gardener. He grew everything from Bonsai plants, to award winning tomatoes. Dr. Menzel also loved sailing. He sailed all over Long Island Sound on his many different boats with his two boys. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
