Obituary for Jeanne Claire (Caulfield) Crown
Jeanne Claire (Caulfield) Crown, a longtime Stratford resident, died on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Saint Joseph’s Manor, Trumbull, CT.
The daughter of the late William and Mary (Sullivan) Caulfield, she was born October 1, 1921 in Bridgeport, where she attended Saint Augustine’s School and graduated from Central High School. After raising her family, she embarked on a career in retail, retiring as Head Sales for Gimbel’s in Bridgeport.
Jeanne delighted in touring New England, lunches at country inns, early Americana, collecting milk glass, American flags, cloth dolls and colorful sneakers, big band music, Manhattan street fairs and the film “Gone with the Wind” (which she saw over 30 times).
But the greatest joy of her life was her family, to whom she gave her unreserved support, enthusiasm and affection.
Jeanne is survived by her loving children, Mary-Ellen Blahodatny (George) of New York City, Gregory Crown of Richardson, TX and John Crown, Jr. (Patricia) of Shelton; her adored grandchildren, Jason Crown (Melissa) of Prosper, TX and Jordan Iannone (Michael) of Orange; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Josephine Crown, John Iannone and Anthony Iannone.
She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law Nancy Caulfield, and five dear nieces and nephews and their families.
Jeanne was predeceased by her beloved husband John Cleve Crown, Sr., her sister and best friend Marie Lichtenberger, her brother William Caulfield and her brother-in-law Theodore Lichtenberger.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint James Church, 2110 Main St., Stratford. Interment will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford.
Friends may visit with her family Friday morning before Mass time from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford.
In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may make a contribution in her name to Holy Family Monastery and Retreat Center, West Hartford, CT.
