Obituary for Josephine Margaret Elliano (Joan) Wheway
Josephine Margaret Elliano (Joan) Wheway, age 82, beloved wife of the late Richard Wheway of Stratford, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside Monday, June 17, 2013 in Monroe. Born in Bridgeport August 18, 1930 daughter of the late John and Alice Belinski Elliano, Joan resided in Stratford most of her life and retired from D. M. Reads, Macy's and American Frozen Foods. A member of Saint James Church, she was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Resurrection Choir. Survivors include her children John and Christine Wheway of Sandy Hook, Joseph Wheway and Thomas and Paul Wheway all of Stratford, Richard and Pat Wheway of Wilbraham, MA, Alice and Joseph Fiorillo of Monroe and Mary-Jo McCorry and Joseph of Shelton; fifteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a daughter Christine Gardner, a brother John Elliano and a sister Alice Robison. Friends are invited to attend her funeral on Friday, June 21, 2013 meeting at St. James Church, Stratford at 10:30 am for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in St. John's Cemetery, Moose Hill Rd., Monroe. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 pm in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Thomas Merton House, the Bridgeport Rescue Mission or a charity of your choice.
