Obituary for Leona (Stadt) Tomlinson
TOMLINSON - Leona (Stadt) Tomlinson, age 89, of Stratford entered eternal life Tuesday, February 11, 2014 in the Lord Chamberlain Nursing Facility, Stratford. Leona was born October 23, 1924 in Nanticoke, PA, daughter of the late Louis and Agnes (Kosciolek) Stadt. She grew up in Wilkes Barre, PA where she was a member of the first graduation class of Marymount High School. Her family moved to Bridgeport in 1942 where she was employed by Singer Manufacturing, SNET and was an Elevator Operator at the Howland’s Department Store in Bridgeport. She retired from American Chain & Cable after 30 years as a Receptionist and Switchboard Operator. She also worked at the Catholic Center in Bridgeport. Leona was a devoted parishioner and volunteer at St. James Church, Stratford where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Clerical Assistant. She was past President of the St. James Ladies Guild, a CCD Teacher and a member of the St. James Seniors and the Baldwin Center. Survivors include her son Charles Tomlinson and his wife Nancy of Stratford; grandchildren Brandy Jean Tomlinson, Edward Tomlinson Jr. and his wife Shari, Mark Tomlinson, Christopher Tomlinson and his wife Erica and Jonathan Tomlinson and his wife Mary; great grandchildren, Patrick, Spencer and his companion Amanda, Trevor, Justin, Chenelle, Caylee, Jaron, Sydney and Erin; one great-great grandson, Colton and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Edward, her sister Dorothy and brother Joseph. The family would like to thank the Lord Chamberlain staff, especially the 4th Floor Nursing Staff and her aide, Christine, for their compassionate care of Leona. Friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may visit with the family Tuesday before Mass time from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leona may be made to the St. James Church Memorial Fund, 2110 Main St, Stratford.
