Obituary for Keith C. Nelson
Keith C. Nelson, age 63, of Grantsburg Wisconsin, passed away Thursday morning, July 17, 2014. Keith was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, son of the late Charles G. and Rosalie (Milas) Nelson, Jr. on February 5, 1951 and raised in Stratford, Connecticut. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Univ. of Central Missouri and served in the U.S. Army from July 8, 1971 to July 2, 1974, primarily assigned to the 249th Engineering Battalion in Germany. On October 26, 1985, Keith married Cathy Maurer in Tryon, North Carolina. He was employed over 30 years as a Law Enforcement Ranger with the National Park Service, retiring in 2008. He was assigned to Badlands National Park in South Dakota, Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida, Katmai National Park & Preserve in Alaska, Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and completed his service at St. Croix Riverway in Wisconsin. He enjoyed ice fishing, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. Keith is survived by his loving wife Cathy, two brothers, his twin, Kevin Nelson and his wife Debbie of Ansonia and older brother Craig Nelson and his wife Ginny of Milford; his father-in-law, Eugene D. Maurer; sister-in-law, Ellen (Maurer) Brown and her husband, Buzz; many nieces and nephews; and his dogs: Beeker, Rhyme, and Jif. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rosalie Nelson, Jr. and his mother-in-law, Rachel (McClanahan) Maurer. Interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery was private. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service in Saint James Church, 2070 Main St, Stratford, CT. Friday, August 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. The service will be followed by a gathering for friends and family in the Blue Goose Restaurant, Ferry Blvd, Stratford, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made out to the Keith Nelson Scholarship to be created at Stratford High School in memory of Keith Nelson.
