Obituary for Marie Cecelia Lichtenberger
Marie Cecelia (Caulfield) Lichtenberger, age 97, a life long resident of Stratford and beloved wife of the late Theodore J. Lichtenberger, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Bridgeport Hospital. Marie was born in Bridgeport on May 17, 1917, the oldest daughter of the late William and Mary (Sullivan) Caulfield. She attended St. Augustine's School and Central High School. Her first job was at Parsons Brothers. On April 11, 1942 she married the love of her life, Theodore Lichtenberger at St. Augustine's Cathedral, Bridgeport - a true love match that lasted 58 years. Marie had many interests, including gardening, painting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and especially entertaining family and friends. After raising her family, Marie worked at D.M. Reads until her retirement. She is survived by her loving children: Marlene Lichtenberger of Bridgeport and her special friend, Robert Sulik of Stratford, William Lichtenberger and his wife Maryann of Stratford, Joanne Starke and her husband Allen of Minnesota; her cherished grandchildren: Eric Lichtenberger and his wife Colleen of Simsbury, Amy Goodrich and her husband John of Seymour, Tina Lichtenberger-Summ and her husband Matt of Trumbull, Nathan Starke and his wife Melissa of Minnesota, Rebecca Starke and her fiance Brian Dower of Bridgeport, Daniel Starke and his wife Kathryn of Maple Cross, England; her precious great-grandchildren: Zachary, Robbie, Kaia, Keller, Ethan, Oliver, Charlotte, Theodore, Paul Liam, Finnegan, as well as one on the way; her sister, Jeanne Crown of Stratford and her brother William Caulfield and his wife Nancy of Stratford; brother-in-law Charles Lichtenberger and his wife Lorraine of South Carolina; dear nieces, nephews, cousins and her dear friend, Joanne Klein. She will also be missed by her beloved cat and loyal companion, Floyd. She is predeceased by her husband, parents, infant sister, Dorothy, brother-in-law, John Crown, brother-in-law Paul Lichtenberger and his wife Claire and sisters-in-law Margaret Lichtenberger and Patricia Conklin. Marie was a remarkable woman of great faith, love, and kindness. Her greatest joy was to be with her family and friends. She was the epitome of grace, elegance and beauty and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church, 2070 Main St., Stratford, Ct. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.
