Obituary for Edward Bernard Cunniff
Edward B. Cunniff, age 92, of Stratford, beloved husband of Sophie (Pronzen) Cunniff, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2023. Ed was born in the Bronx, NY on March 28, 1931, beloved son of the late Edward J. and Margaret (Hynes) Cunniff and had been a lifelong area resident.
Ed was a veteran who joined the Navy in 1948 and served proudly on numerous ships, including the USS Fairview PCE-850 and USS Cabot CVL-28. Following his discharge, he worked within manufacturing and held numerous management positions throughout his career. Later in life, he became a Real Estate agent and enjoyed teaching and selling real estate until his retirement.
Together with his wife, Ed enjoyed traveling, spending time at their property in New Hampshire, and all things friends and family. He loved his Irish heritage, had a great sense of humor, an incredible memory, and an admirable outlook on life. He shared a special bond with his four-legged friends and thought the world of his little Mimi. With our Dad, it is easy to say that he had a wonderful life and was a very happy person to be around.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his cherished children, Edward K. (Gloria) Cunniff of Wallingford; Laura (Armand) Giorgio of Milford; Margaret (Robert) Budds of Cromwell; Susan (Robert) Welch of Wallingford; Peter (Jonna) Cunniff of Seymour; twelve grandchildren, Kelly, Eddie J., Alison, Matthew, Emily, Patrick, Bobby, Olivia, Laura, Peter, Sean, and Thomas, as well as nine great-grandchildren, Aleksa, Colin, CJ, Gavin, Brody, Avery, Hadley, Sloane, and Willa.
Family and close friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on May 18, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615.
Interment with military honors will follow in St Michael’s Cemetery 2205 Stratford Avenue, Stratford, CT.
Friends and family may visit before service time from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
