Obituary for Elizabeth 'Betty' M. Lynch
Elizabeth 'Betty' M. Lynch, age 99, of Stratford passed into the arms of Our Lord on Saturday, August 3, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Ms. Lynch was born May 27, 1914, in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Patrick and Julia (Martin) Lynch. A resident of Stratford, she made her home both in Lordship and Oronoque Village. Her Irish heritage so defined her. She treasured her trips to Ireland keeping close in her heart her family there. Knitting was one of her favorite hobbies and her family is ever thankful to have so many keepsakes such as our Irish tams, sweaters, afghans and, in later years, her wonderful 'eyelash' scarves. Young at heart, she loved traveling, weekly bingo at the K of C, boating and trips to the casino. She always said “yes” to new adventures with her family including snow skiing for the first time at age 65. She retired from General Electric after 40 years of service and was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club as well as the Gaelic American Club. One of the greatest blessings of her 99 years was to have the dearest friendship of her best friend from childhood, Dorothy S. Cotton. Aunt Betty is survived by her loving nephews Kevin T. Kelley and his wife Jeanette and Brian R. Kelley and his wife Linda of Stratford; her loving nieces Margaret M. Kelley of Trumbull and Kathleen Kelley Brooks and her husband Jonathan of Stratford. She will be sadly missed by her great nieces and nephews Sean Kelley, Jennifer Ingersoll, Jill Kelley, Erin Kelley, Megan Kelley Jamison, Cayleigh Kelley Brooks, Kara Kelley Brooks, Walter Joseph, and Kerry and Patrick Grauer. She was especially close to her cousin, Ann Blyth, and was so happy and proud to serve as her maid of honor. Betty so loved her family and friends and was such a source of support to all. She was predeceased by her two brothers Patrick and Thomas Lynch, niece Margaret Lynch Joseph Grauer, her beloved sister Peggy Kelley and brother-in-law Richard Kelley, whom she missed so dearly. Friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Stratford for a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Ms. Lynch may be made to Our Lady of Peace Sanctuary Fund, 230 Park Blvd, Stratford, CT, American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897, or the charity of your choice.
