Obituary for Helen Gusch
God called Helen Gusch, 89, to be with her husband and son on September 26, 2021. She passed away peacefully at the Treasure Coast Hospice, Stuart, FL after a long battle over the last two months with several health issues. She was just too tired to fight anymore and she wanted to rest in God’s hands.
Born on February 1, 1932 to Samuel and Claudia LaCroix, Helen spent her younger years growing up in Abitibi, Quebec, Canada with her six siblings of which only her older brother remains, Roland LaCroix of Farmingdale, ME. Her family then moved to Bridgeport, CT where she met and married the love of her life, George J. Gusch, Sr. on February 10, 1948. They lived most of their lives in Bridgeport before building their dream home in Monroe, CT. Once illness struck George they downsized and moved to Stratford then later to Shelton. Their daughter Diane was there as a caretaker to help with her Dad’s care until his passing. After his passing, at only sixty-four, Helen moved a few years later to Stuart, FL coming back to CT often to visit and stay with her daughter Diane. She loved being with both her daughters, her grandsons and especially the great-granddaughters! When in Florida she loved socializing, happy hours, shopping, and visiting the FL sites!
Helen was a past member of the Vista Pines Connecticut Club and The Questers of Stuart, a historical preservation society.
She started to travel often with her daughter Diane on her business trips, both domestically and internationally. Two of her favorite places were Hawaii and Paris. She was always dressed in the latest styles and her makeup and hair were perfect right up to the end! Helen loved to live and lived to love! She always had a smile and a good word for everyone! All her daughter’s girlfriends called her Mama Helen!!
George and Helen had three children, Gail Koether of Ansonia, CT, Diane Gusch of Stuart, FL who she resided, and George J Gusch, Jr., deceased. In addition to her two daughters, she leaves a grandson, Robert D. Koether and his wife Michelle of Seymour, CT and a granddaughter Jessica Gusch of North Haven, CT. She was predeceased by her grandson Jeffery Koether and son-in-law Robert J. Koether, Jr. She leaves four great-grandchildren, Victoria Koether, Charlotte Koether, and Harvey and Norma Jass. In addition, she leaves her most dearest friend of over 50 years, Simone D’Addario of Stuart, FL and many, nieces, nephews, cousins and very good friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford, CT 06614. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull, CT. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the William R.
