Obituary for Lillian Agnes (Sullivan) Mulligan
Lillian Agnes Mulligan, 101 years old, passed away October 25, 2020 in Middlebury, Connecticut. She was born June 15, 1919 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Patrick and Margaret (Reddin) Sullivan.

She had a simple life in which she loved and has been loved by many. Lillian handled the difficult moments in her life with grace and dignity. She was known by many people as Agnes and Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lillian grew up in Bridgeport and was within walking distance of all her Irish relatives from County Kerry and County Cork in Ireland. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Ireland with their families and eventually settled in Bridgeport in the 1880’s. After graduation from Central High School in Bridgeport, Lillian helped the war effort by working at Remington Arms in Bridgeport. Her job was to pack bullets in packages.

Lillian met Bill Mulligan when he was babysitting for his brother next door. After their marriage they moved to Stratford. Lillian said moving to Stratford felt like she was coming home. Just like when she was growing up, she lived close to her sisters and brothers and in-laws. They had a wonderful life together. Lillian and Bill were always there to help their children and grandchildren when they needed help. During their retirement years they were able to travel to many wonderful places. When people asked her what her secret was to living to such an advanced age, she used to reply by saying she had good Irish genes. She is the last survivor of the “Club Girls” who met every week in each other’s homes to play the card game pinochle. The “Club Girls” traveled together, laughed together and supported each other.

She leaves her two devoted children, Patricia Thompson and her husband Leonard Thompson of Middlebury, Connecticut; and David Mulligan and his wife Carol of Oxford, Connecticut. She will be missed by her daughter-in-law Midori Mulligan in Henderson, Nevada; her devoted grandchildren, Jaycee Mislow and her husband Darin of Miami Florida, Carol Hackett and her husband Patrick of Lakeville, Connecticut, Christina Burge and her husband Jon of Berryville, Virginia; her step-grandchildren, Courtney Ryan of Milford, Connecticut and Colin Ryan and his wife Sarah of Stratford, Connecticut. She is survived by seven great-grandchildren; Connor and Lily Burge of Berryville, Virginia; Tommy and his wife Ruth of Salisbury, Connecticut; Jimmy Hackett of Salisbury, Connecticut, and Luke Mislow of Miami. She also leaves three step-great-grandchildren Ella and Penelope Simoneau, and Connor Ryan.

She is predeceased by her husband William Patrick Mulligan, son William David Mulligan, brothers William and Thomas Sullivan and her sisters Catherine Fox, Alice Gisoni and Ann Mcklosky. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Lillian’s family would like to thank the Middlebury Convalescent Home in Middlebury for their wonderful care, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The heroic actions of the health care workers during the pandemic enabled our mother to live virus free in her last years. She came into this world during the 1918 pandemic and left this world 101 years later during the second pandemic.
