Obituary for Rodney S. Derosiers, Sr.
Rodney S. Desrosiers, Sr. (“Pop”) passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2013, with his family by his side. Pop is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Catherine; his son, Rodney Jr. and wife Martha; daughter, Karen and her husband John Abed and grandchildren Ryan, Alexandria, Rachael and Rileigh. Pop lived most of his life in Stratford; he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy after serving in the Korean Conflict and later retired from the Stratford Police Department as a Detective. Pop was an avid outdoorsman. Pop fished almost daily and held a U.S. Coast Guard Captains license, he was formerly the State Champion Competitive Archer (senior division), he trained many gun dogs and hunted with his buddies in the woods of Maine and New Hampshire. Pop was a good friend to all who knew him and he had many friends. In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Pop is survived by his sister, Lynda Desrosiers, several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur and mother, Nellie (Ziolkowski) Desrosiers and brother, Arthur Desrosiers, Jr. Friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald funeral Home, 2591 Main St, Stratford; and at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph’s Church, 1300 Stratford Road, Stratford. Interment will be private.
