Obituary for William R. C. Milne Sr.
MILNE - William R. C. Milne, Sr., age 90, beloved husband of Marge (Eddy) Milne of Stratford, died Saturday morning May, 4, 2013 in the Maefair Nursing Facility Trumbull with his loving family by his side. Mr. Milne was born April 23, 1923 in Bridgeport, son of the late Charles and Arabella (Ross) Milne and had been a life time Stratford resident. He retired in 1991 from his beloved Stratford Police Department after 38 years. He was the Deputy Chief for over ten years and acting Chief for one year. Bill served in the 9th Army Air Force during world War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a past President, charter member and co-founder of the VFW Police Post 10273, a life member of Raymond Goldbach VFW Post 9460 Stratford, member of the Police Chief’s International Association, the PBA (Police Benevolent Association) past President and member of Stratford’s PAL (Police Athletic League)and America Saint John AF & AM Lodge No 8. He was also a member of The Stratford United Methodist Church for over 50 years. In addition to his beloved wife, Bill is survived by two sons, William R. C. Milne, Jr. of New Hampshire and Richard H. Milne of Stratford; four sisters, Ruby Marshall, May Hornak, June Squire, all of California and Arabella Heatherton of Alaska; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend his funeral service celebrated by the Reverend Koonae A. Lee on Wednesday May 8, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, and at 10:00 a.m. in The Stratford United Methodist Church, 2600 Main St., Stratford. Interment with full military and police honors will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may visit with family Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Stratford United Methodist Church, 2600 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615.
