Obituary for Gracie F.A. Dunn
Gracie F.A. Dunn passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the age of 90. Gracie was born on October 29, 1923 to the late Reginald and Florence (Rodgers) Cox in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. She immigrated to the United States as a young war bride having met and married her husband, James E. Dunn, while he was stationed in Wellington, NZ with the 2nd Marine Division prior to the Pacific campaign of World War II. Gracie was a member of the Civilian Staff of the Royal Navy during WWII. She worked for many years at Paint Products in Bridgeport, CT, retiring from there in 1998. Until recently, she resided at Wesley Heights in Shelton, CT and enjoyed the companionship of the many friends she made there. Gracie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Shelton. She was also an avid scuba diver and a member of the New Zealand Diver’s Club. Gracie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; sisters, Freda and Mavis and a brother, Eric. She is survived by her three daughters: Cheryl (Joe) Paumi of Eaton Rapids, MI, Bonnie (Larry) Elinskas of Providence Forge, VA and Denise (Ed) Greco of Titusville, FL; her five grandchildren: Lee, Kelly, Deanna, Andrea and Mark and six great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gracie may be made to the Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home, 7003 Main St., Stratford, CT 06614.
